New gels could protect buildings during wildfires


Wildfire NOTD subscriber Eric Appel, an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering in Stanford University's School of Engineering, published a study in the journal Advanced Materials which shows that a new silica aerogel they have developed continues to protect treated materials from a wildfire after all the water inside the gel has evaporated, making it significantly more effective than existing commercial gels, which typically lose their effectiveness when they dry out.

Wildfire Fighting Agencies Spend Too Little on Prevention
