Kern helicopters, outfitted for night flying, in high demand for fighting wildfires around the state

As the 110,720-acre Tubbs Fire surged into Santa Rosa in early October, the Kern County Fire Department sent one of its NVG-equipped helicopters to assist with that and other blazes scorching Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties.
