The West’s iconic forests are increasingly struggling to recover from wildfires – altering how fires burn could help


As wildfires and severe drought kill trees at an alarming rate across the West, a new study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences uses data gathered by over 50 fire ecologists in more than 10,000 locations after 334 wildfires which shows that there are ways to improve forests’ chances of recovery by altering how wildfires burn.
