Trump’s 2026 budget proposes consolidating federal wildfire roles into single agency
The Trump administration has released its proposed 2026 budget, which includes a proposal to restructure federal wildland firefighting responsibilities by consolidating wildland fire management functions, which are currently divided between five agencies across the Department of the Interior and Department of Agriculture, into a new Federal Wildland Fire Service housed within the DOI.
