Global tree cover loss due to fires surged by 370% compared to 2023
The "2025 state of the climate report: A planet on the brink" indicated that the total global tree cover loss in 2024 was estimated at 29.6 million hectares, making it the second highest on record and 4.7% higher than in 2023, with the sharp increase largely attributed to a surge in wildfire-related losses.
