Scientific American Magazine provided an overview of how technology is being harnessed to give firefighters advantages in spotting wildfires, looking back at how far we've come from the Big Burn of 1910, a 3 million-acre inferno that destroyed several towns across northern Idaho, western Montana and parts of British Columbia, claiming nearly 90 lives.
